The commitment was reaffirmed during a series of Gender Mainstreaming (PUG) socialization programs held at PT Dinamika Prima Artha and PT Kemilau Indah Nusantara in Bengalon District. The initiative follows similar activities previously conducted at other plantation companies in the region.
The program is jointly organized by East Kutai's Office for Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (DP3A), the Regional Manpower and Transmigration Office (Distrannaker), the East Kalimantan Provincial Manpower Office, and Solidaridad Network Indonesia.
Under the theme "Creating Leadership Opportunities for Women in the Palm Oil Plantation Sector and Promoting Decent Work Standards for Female Workers and Workers' Wives," the initiative seeks to improve understanding among plantation companies about equal employment opportunities, non-discriminatory workplaces, and safe working environments.
East Kutai Distrannaker Head Sulisman said the palm oil industry plays a strategic role in regional economic development, making fair and inclusive industrial relations essential for long-term sustainability.
He emphasized that women possess the same capacity as men to contribute to plantation development and should be provided with equal opportunities to advance into leadership positions based on merit and professional competence.
Echoing the message, East Kutai DP3A Head Idham Cholid explained that gender mainstreaming is designed to ensure equal access, participation, control, and benefits for both women and men throughout the development process.
He said implementing gender mainstreaming within plantation companies is not only about protecting women's rights but also about building more professional and equitable human resource management systems.
The program also covered decent work standards, labor protection, workplace equality, occupational safety, and harmonious industrial relations.
Labor Inspector Andriansyah highlighted the importance of occupational health and safety (OHS) under Indonesia's Occupational Safety Law, emphasizing that workplace safety must become a shared responsibility between employers and employees to create healthy, productive working environments.
Representatives from Solidaridad Network Indonesia also participated by sharing perspectives on sustainable labor practices and gender equality within the plantation sector.
Through continued collaboration between government agencies, industry, and development partners, East Kutai aims to encourage more palm oil companies to adopt inclusive labor policies that strengthen industrial relations while enhancing the long-term competitiveness of Indonesia's sustainable palm oil industry.
