As the world’s largest palm oil producer, Indonesia faces increasing demand for professionals who not only possess strong academic foundations but are also capable of adapting to technological transformation and evolving business requirements. In addition to the signing ceremony, the event featured a guest lecture titled “Level Up Your Career: Employment Opportunities and the Future of the Palm Oil Industry,” attended by students from UMM’s Agrotechnology and Industrial Engineering programs. Through the collaboration, both institutions will develop a range of initiatives, including internship opportunities, graduate recruitment pathways, and curriculum alignment programs to ensure academic training better reflects real-world industry needs. UMM Vice Rector IV, M. Salis Yuniardi, emphasized that the partnership demonstrates the university’s commitment to producing highly competitive graduates capable of contributing directly to Indonesia’s plantation sector.   Palm Oil Industry Requires Adaptive and Innovative Talent From the industry perspective, PT Bumitama Gunajaya Agro sees workforce development as increasingly important amid rapid technological adoption and modernization across plantation operations. Agus Sutrisno, HC & OSM Director of PT Bumitama Gunajaya Agro, said the future of the palm oil industry will depend heavily on managerial efficiency and technological innovation. “The future palm oil industry relies on effective management and technology utilization. Therefore, we need talented university graduates who can deliver innovative solutions and contribute to the industry's sustainable growth,” Agus said. According to him, partnerships with universities are essential to ensuring a continuous pipeline of qualified professionals capable of supporting the long-term competitiveness of Indonesia’s palm oil sector.   Building a Stronger Link Between Academia and Industry The Palm Oil CoE at UMM is expected to serve as a platform for strengthening student competencies through learning experiences closely connected to industrial practices.
